Valencia Street CircuitSpain24 25 26 june 2011QUALIFYING: 8° ± 0.454 RACE 1: 3° ± 20.901 RACE 2: 4° ± 26.633 STANDINGS: 3° 30 points The GP2 Main Series was back on-track today on the street course of Valencia, hosting the fourth round of the 2011 season. At the Spanish venue, qualifying have been highly-conditioned by two separate incidents that forced the stewards to interrupt the session. Davide scored the eight fastest laptime of the day in its closing stages, despite suffering from a fading performance level of his car compared to the latest outings.
“I hasn't been a particularly brilliant day for me – told Davide – the car's set-up was far from perfect and there have been several issues that didn't help. Eight place isn't a great result but it doesn't rule out a positive performance on tomorrow's race. We'll see how it goes, and I believe that tire management will be key in order to achieve some good results.” The first race of the weekend will take-off tomorrow at 15:40, while race 2 is scheduled for Sunday at 10:30 (All times CET). Race 1 will benefit from live TV coverage in Italy by Rai Sport 1, while free-to-air RAI2 will broadcast Race 2 live on the following day. The GP2 Main Series weekend at Valencia entered its decisive stage today with the running of race 1 of the fourth round of the 2011 season. After having started in 8th, Valsecchi completed an oustanding recovery by taking advantage from the race's circumstances and by not making a single mistake.
“The race took-off in a really positive way – told Davide – my start have been good and I managed to recover up to 6th place. Then we decided to anticipate our pit-stop, and that proved the right choice. I went back on-track and I pushed harder than I possibly could to gain ground on the drivers who were stopping after me. At the end of the pit-stop window I found myself in third, and while the tires' performance faded in the closing laps, I was quite pleased with how the car handled. We're still missing something in qualifying, but there's still long to go in championship and there will be plenty of occasions for trying to fix this aspect too”. The closing race of the weekend is scheduled for tomorrow, starting at 10:30 with live TV coverage in Italy by RAI 2. Davide will take-off from 6th place. Thanks to a virtually perfect race, Davide scored a valuable fourth place finish today in Valencia, as he ended up in 4th on race 2 of the GP2 Main Series round held between the Spanish city's streets.
“My start has been really good – told Davide – but as soon as I approached the braking zone for the first corner I realized that Grosjean was going to hit me. I tried to stay as wide as I could on the entry, using all the space I possibly could. I got away just with a slight touch, and during the first few laps I was just checking if everything was fine. At the start I was running in 6th, then Kral, who was in front of me, spun and I started to chase Clos, who was running in 4th. I didn't think it was possible for me to get him, because he was 7 seconds in front, but eventually I managed to pass him as my overall pace was really good. What about third place in standings? Well, the season is expected to be long and tough, but I'm satisfied with what I achieved this weekend. Now I hope to stay at the front at Silverstone starting from Qualifying.” The 5th round of the 2011 GP2 Main Series will be in Great Britain, at Silverstone, starting in a 2-week time. |
