Davide Valsecchi approaches the the world of motor racing only four years old, an age at which one usually approaches for the first time the bicycle. For Davide, the spark plug ignites the more classic way, a kart-cross received as gifts from dad Fiorenzo and a close friend, Gigi Brusadelli, a F1 former mechanic. The approach with its first engine having to tame is critical, because even if the commitment is obviously an amateur pastime, mile after mile Davide shows clearly have a natural inclination to drive. There's always the more and more prestigious karting races, but he never passed by the earlier studies.
And as soon as age allows, also comes the debut in a single-seater, and the progress of Davide’s career. First the FormulaRenault 2.0, then the World Series by Renault, where he got the first international victory. In 2007 comes the chance of his debut in the prestigious GP2 Series, and Davide takes the opportunity and accept the comparison with the best talent in the context of the preparatory formulas. The approach with the powerful Dallara-Renault is just natural, and after the eighth place won at the end of the GP2 Asia Series, Davide is preparing his debut in the MainSeries with the aim to grow with every race. A specific project, but unfortunately it clashes with a violent incident occured at the beginning of May at the Istanbul circuit. David in the violent impact against the barriers of the Turkish circuit fractured some vertebrae, and the season abruptly stop. The doctors indicated recovery times that are not open to get back on track before the end of the season, but the motivations play a key role, and after missing the Monte Carlo’s and Magny-Cours trials, on the 4th of July Davide is back on track at Silverstone, less than two months after the accident. The form is obviously not flawless, and the rest of the league is still living with a bit more difficulties. All this however does not prevent Davide to get his first win in GP2, and is a dream come true, as the success came at the last race on the calendar, at the Monza circuit. The victory in home race gives wings to the enthusiasm of Davide, who start immediately his second participation in the GP2 Asia Series, winning at Shanghai and staying in the race for the title until the last race. Lower than expected the final loot of the Main Series in 2009, a difficult season that saw Davide two teams change, but never find that feeling needed to set up a professional work. The black period ends when he arrives in iSport team, English team that welcomes him to the 2009/2010 edition of the GP2 AsiaSeries. Davide immediately understood to have found a team that he was looking for a long time, and the feeling with the car is immediate. The calendar is composed of four events, both with the classical formula of double-race, and the final prize is exciting: Champion, thanks to three victories, one pole position and six podium in eight races overall. The victory in the GP2 Asia Series launches Davide in the list of drivers, who will fight for the Main Series 2010 title, the league which in past years has graduated drivers now major players in the F1 world championship. The challenge is open to the twenty-three years old Davide and he is ready and mature enough to play his chance until the last race.The championship is in full swing, but the feeling with the Main Series car (other than the one used in the Asian Championship) is not the best. Both Davide and the team worked harder than expected, but the season ends anyway so rewarding, thanks to th esuccess achieved in the final test of Abu Dhabi. And on the day of his victory in the Middle East, David agrees with the F1 HRT team that offers a day of testing. A test for Davide which becomes the first time on a maximum formula’s car, an important milestone in the career of any driver. Davide prepares at best, and when he takes the track in the Abu Dhabi’s circuit affronts the curves in a very natural way. Astonished at first, then the HRT team are very pleased with what Davide can show in a few laps, the first time at the wheel of a Formula 1. And for the first time the team manages to overtake the Virgin HRT, the direct rival of the team in the World2010, in the times ranking. In the winter leading to the 2011 season Valsecchi is one of the valuable pieces of the GP2 market, but at the same time also becomes an object of attention by several F1 teams. Davide, after carefully evaluating all the deals, choose a challenge on two fronts. Remaining in GP2, but it will be with a newborn team, Air Asia, the Lotus F1 team rib. Davide will be the top driver in GP2 ‘s team wanted by the owner of Lotus Tony Fernandez, but also test-driver for the F1 team. A challenging program that Davide intends to affront by giving the maximum, as usual. Well aware that it could be the final step before entering full-time in F1.
